Knights Start 2007 with Exhibition Win Over Algonquin

November 4, 2007

Potsdam, NY - Junior forward Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, NY) scored 10 of his team-high 16 points in the second half as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team registered a 66-59 come-from-behind victory over Algonquin in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

Neither team was particularly sharp in the opening minutes of the game as the teams struggled from the outside, but eventually play picked as both surpassed 30 points in the first half. Shawn Lasalita (San Diego, CA) came off the bench to score 10 points in the first half for the Golden Knights while Stanley Ankrah and Marlon Campbell each recorded seven for the Thunder.

Clarkson trailed by as many as nine points early in the second half, but slowly came back to finally tie the game with just under six minutes remaining at 52-52. The teams teetered back and forth for the next five minutes with Algonquin taking a one-point lead with 1:08 left on Ankrah's jumper in the paint. A wide open 3-pointer by Keith Murray (Queens, NY) 14 seconds later gave Clarkson the lead for good as the Knights ended the game on a 10-2 run.

Pickering added eight rebounds and three assists to his team-high 16 points, but no other player besides Lasalita reached double figures for Clarkson. Ankrah finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds for the Thunder and Marlon Campbell added 14 points.
