Potsdam, NY - Junior Matt Ulsh (Rochester, MN) won both events in which he was entered for the Clarkson University Swimming team on Saturday, but the Oswego State Lakers took advantage of the extra points it earned in the diving to take the meet from the Golden Knights at Fuller Pool.
The Golden Knights' men's team lost its meet against Oswego State, 133-103, but would have been victorious had it not been for the 32 points the team sacrificed in the diving events. On the women's side, the score was 147-76, again with the Lakers getting the benefit of an additional 32 points.
Ulsh was victorious in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:23.14 and then took first in the 100 butterfly, as well, with a time of 1:02.99. Clarkson took six of the 11 non-diving events in the meet with help from freshman Robert Stevens (Lakewood, NY), who won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.17, junior Corey Van Woert (Binghamton, NY), who claimed first in the 50 freestyle in 25.15, and senior Corey Curtis (Erieville, NY), who placed first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.61. Clarkson also finished first in the meet's opening event, the 200 medley relay, thanks to Stevens, Curtis, Van Woert and junior Steve Ritter (Johnson City, NY), swimming the race in 1:55.25.
Three women took individual events for the Golden Knights on the other side of the meet. Freshman Nicole Pera (Jamison, PA) matched Ulsh's 200 individual medley win with a victory of her own, finishing the distance in 2:43.09. Sophomore Laura Shaddak (Oswego, NY) won the 100 freestyle in 1:03.09 and Kristen Larsen (Fort Edward, NY) placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:22.72.
