CLARKSON FALLS at 7th-RANKED RIT

Facing its fifth Top 12 nationally-ranked foe of the 2006 campaign, the Clarkson University Lacrosse team fell 15-10 at 7th-rated Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon in Rochester.
 
Trailing 8-4 at the half, the Golden Knights stepped up their play in the third quarter, out scoring the Tigers 3-2 to make it a 10-7 game after 45 minutes of play.
 
Freshman attackman Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville, NY) tallied his team-high fourth goal of the contest early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 10-8. RIT (9-1), however, answered back with five straight goals to go on top 15-8 with just over five minutes to play.
 
Senior captain Bryan Johnson (Newark, NY) and freshman Brian Hoey (Auburn, NY) put the final two goals on the scoreboard for the Knights with 13 seconds left.
 
The Tigers out shot Clarkson 50-28 and held a 66-34 advantage in groundballs. Seniors Nate Glenney (Milan, NH) and Brian Hanlon (Marcellus, NY) picked up seven groundballs apiece for the Green and Gold.

Johnson finished with three goals, while Hanlon chipped in two goals. Freshman Corey Reinhart (Albany, NY) recorded three assists.
 
RIT’s David Demuth led all scorers with six goals.
 
Freshman Eric Wolery (Cincinnati, OH) finished with a season-high 16 saves in goal for Clarkson.
 
Clarkson, 2-6 overall, will open up Liberty League play this Saturday when it hosts conference foe Vassar College at 2:00 p.m. on Hantz Field.
