CLARKSON FALLS BEHIND EARLY in LOSS to NAZARETH

March 13, 2006

A fourth-quarter rally was not enough to overcome a large deficit to national powerhouse Nazareth College as the Clarkson University Lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 17-10 on Monday morning in Sylvan Lake Park, Florida.

In its second game during its spring trip, the Golden Knights scored first as freshman Erik Hilfinger (Ann Arbor, MI) converted a pass from classmate Brian Hoey (Auburn, NY) at 3:42 of the first quarter, but after that Nazareth rattled off 10 straight goals en route to a 10-3 halftime lead. The Golden Flyers upped their advantage to 14-5 after 45 minutes before the Green and Gold outscored their opponent 5-3 in the fourth stanza.

Freshman midfielder Cory Reinhart (Albany, NY) lead the Knights in scoring against Nazareth (2-1) with three goals and two assists. Coming off a two-goal, two-assist effort in this past Friday’s win over Susquehanna University, freshman Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville, NY) chipped in three goals and one assist on Monday.

Hilfinger scored two goals, while senior Brian Hanlon (Marcellus, NY) and freshman Cory Schneider (Yorktown, NY) tallied one goal and one assist each.

Nazareth dominated statistically, outshooting Clarkson 47-28 and controlling ground balls 56-28. Nazareth also won 25 of 31 face-offs.

Freshman Eric Wolery (Cincinnati, OH) started in goal for the Knight and made five saves, while allowing 10 goals. Sophomore Greg Lamb (Baldwinsville, NY) posted nine saves and allowed seven goals through 45 minutes of action.

At 1-1, Clarkson will close out its spring trip in Florida this Thursday when it faces ninth-ranked Wesleyan University in a 10:00 a.m. contest.
