Reddinger Pulls Down 18 Boards As Knights Drop Decision to Nazareth

November 25, 2006

Rochester, NY - Freshman Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, NY) came within two rebounds of a school record just three games into her first collegiate season, but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team fell 81-61 in a non-league game to Nazareth College on Saturday evening.

The Golden Knights dropped to 0-3 on the season and look to pick up the first victory of the season on Sunday at RIT. Nazareth opened its season on Saturday and is now 1-0.

The Golden Knights trailed by double figures at the end of the first half, 38-26, but were close for most of the first half before the Golden Flyers went on a 12-3 run over the final five minutes to end the half.  Despite a solid defensive effort, the Knights could not come cut the lead to less than 13 for the final 19 minutes of the game.

Reddinger closed with a double-double for Clarkson, recording 10 points to go along with 18 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end. Her 18 boards came within two of the standard set by Jen Martin during the 2001-02 season when he pulled down 20 boards against Potsdam State. Joining Reddinger in double figures were Rachel Whitermore (Hollison, MA), who scored a team-high 13 points in 20 minutes, Vanessa Westcott (Parish, NY), who added 11 points and 5 assists, and Amanda Coots (Bath, NY), who added 10 points.

Five players finished in double figures for the Flyers with Whitney Smith scoring 16 points to go along with eight rebounds. Kelly Dunne and Jamie Malloy each added 14 points while Sarah Homer and Stephanie Bowens scored 13 points and 10 points, respectively.

Clarkson shot a respectable 35.0 percent from the floor, eight percentage points behind Nazareth, but the most significant difference in the game came on turnovers as the Knights committed 25 miscues compared to the Flyers' 13.
