Third-Period Goal by Shaidle Give Knights Tie at #3 Mercyhurst

October 14, 2006

Erie, PA - Senior Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH), the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team's all-time leading scorer, picked up her first goal of the season midway through the third period to help the Golden Knights earn a 3-3 tie against third-ranked Mercyhurst College Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-1-1 after suffering their first loss of the season on Friday to the Lakers, while Mercyhurst suffered its first blemish, moving to 3-0-1 on the season.

Junior Katie Morrison (Ridgefield, CT) put Clarkson on the scoreboard first when she tallied her second goal of the season at 15:32 in the first period with assists going to Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO) and Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT), but the lead was shortlived as the Lakers' Meghan Agosta tied the game with a power-play goal just 2:28 later.

The Knights responded with a power-play goal of their own in the second period as Morrison again lit the lamp at 4:29 with Selina and Cloutier assisting on the score. The Lakers' Valerie Chouinard received a pass from Michelle Bonello at 12:11 of the second stanza to tie the score for Mercyhurst, again with a man-advantage. Mercyhurst scored its third power-play goal of the game just 3:07 into the third period when Danielle Ayearst assisted on Ashley Pendelton's first goal of the season.

Shaidle scored the game-tying goal at 7:53 with Selina delivering her third assist of the game.

Mercyhurst produced twice as many shots on goal as Clarkson did, out shooing the Knights 42-19, including a 20-7 edge over the final 25 minutes. Clarkson goaltender Kira Hurley (Picerking, ONT) made 39 saves for the Knights while Courtney Drennen made 16 saves for Mercyhurst. Clarkson was 1-of-5 on the power play and the Lakers picked up three goals in 10 attempts with a man-advantage.
