CLARKSON WOMEN TURN IN 4TH PLACE SHOWING

Kirstin Schillemat (Nelson, NH) continued her strong senior campaign for the Clarkson University Cross Country team with a 12th place showing at the highly competitive Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational at St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon.
 
Schillemat finished the 6 kilometer race with a time of 24:13 to lead the Golden Knight Women to a fourth-place finish out of 10 teams. Senior Sam Morse (Camden, NY) paced the Clarkson Men to a 7th-place showing with a time of 27:17 for a 14th-place finish in the 8km race.
 
Vermont won the women’s race with 34 points, followed by St. Lawrence in second (63), Mohawk Valley in third (114) and Clarkson one point behind in fourth. Potsdam College senior Jodie Schoppmann was the individual champion and shattered the course record with a 21:17 clocking. Buffalo Sate 146, New Paltz 151, William Smith 157, Alfred 199, Potsdam 235 and Oswego 240 rounded out the women’s field.
 
St. Lawrence won the men’s team title with 52 points with Vermont second with 76 and Oswego third with 78. DeSales was fourth with 98 followed by Alfred 134, Mohawk Valley 136, Clarkson 147, Buffalo State 203, SUNY Institute of Technology 298, Paul Smith’s 306, Potsdam 329, New Paltz 366 and Hobart 375. The Saints’ Jon French topped a field of 135 runners in the men’s event with a time of .26:22.

Junior Janine Laskoski (Scotia, NY) was Clarkson’s second top finisher for the women, finishing in 24th with a time of 25:10 in the 90-runner field. Senior Marianna Worczack (Eden, NY) was 30th (25:28), sophomore Sarah Gardner (Auburn, ME) placed 40th (26:02), freshman Chelsea Reynolds (Endicott, NY) was 44th (26:10), senior Kate Bellor (Massena, NY) finished 65th (27:31) and sophomore Marissa Ainsworth (Gansevoort, NY) was 66th (27:37)
 
Senior Ken Crawford (Buffalo, NY) was a top 20 runner for the men with an 18th-place time of 27:34. Classmate Dan Ver (Hamburg, NY) came in 32nd (28:10) followed by freshman Mike Ives (Ogdensburg, NY) in 49th (28:36), senior Dan Marker (Elmira, NY) in 56th (28:59), freshman Brad Sherman in 72nd (30:04) and senior Chad Day (Pittsford, NY) at 77th (30:26).
