CLARKSON HARRIERS CAPTURE HOBART INVITATIONAL

Geneva, NY - Senior Sam Morse (Camden, NY) ran the 8,000-meter Hobart Invitational in 27 minutes, 42 seconds as the Clarkson University Men's Cross Country team successfully defended its title Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights women placed second.

The Knights picked up first place on the men's side by scoring a team-low of 30 points. Clarkson was followed by Buffalo State (49), Utica Tech (94), Paul Smith's (128), Keuka (149), Cazenovia (150), Hobart (160) and Potsdam State (162).

Morse came in first place at the Hobart Invitational to return as the Knights' top runner, a spot he enjoyed much of last season. Classmate Ken Crawford (Buffalo, NY) continues to put the pressure on Morse with a time of 28:03, the second finisher at the race. Seniors Dan Ver (Hamburg, NY) and Dan Marker (Elmira, NY) finished fourth and eighth, respecitively for the Knights and sophomore Brad Argentine (Canastota, NY) placed 15th to round out Clarkson's team scoring.

On the women's side, the Knights were narrowly edged out of the title by Buffalo State. The Bengals finished with 38 points, followed closely by Clarkson with 42 points. William Smith came in third with 57 points with Keuka (109), Cazenovia (121), Paul Smith's (incomplete), St. John Fisher (incomplete), and Wells (incomplete) rounding out the team scoring.

Kirstin Schillemat (Nelson, NH) was the Knights top finisher in the 6,000-meter event, placing fourth with a time of 24:54. Junior Janine Laskoski (Scotia, NY) was sixth overall, followed by freshman Chelsea Reynolds (Endicott, NY), who came in eighth, senior Marianna Worczak (Eden, NY), who came in 11th, and sophomore Sarah Gardner (Auburn, ME), who was the 13th finisher.
