The Clarkson University Cross Country teams put in strong showings in their opening meet of the year as the Clarkson Women placed second and the Golden Knight Men finished third at the Cardinal Classic held at SUNY Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Kirstin Schillemat (Nelson, NH) led the Clarkson women with a third-place time of 24:44. Junior Janine Lskoski (Scotia, NY) and senior Marianna Worczak (Eden, NY) followed closely behind in fourth (25:31) and fifth (25:37), respectively for the Knights.
The Clarkson women finished with 36 points, trailing only first-place Plattsburgh’s 27 points in the 6k run. Norwich posted 88 points in third place followed by St. Michaels College in fourth (105 points) and Oneonta State in fifth (108).
Freshman Chelsea Reynolds (Endicott, NY) (26:10) and sophomores Sarah Gardner (Auburn, NY) (26:18) and Marissa Ainsworth (Gansevoort, NY) (26:35) rounded out the Green and Gold top 15 runners finishing in 11th, 13th and 15th, respectively.
Senior Ken Crawford (Buffalo, NY) paced Clarkson in the men’s 8k race with a fourth-place time of 26:57. The Knights placed third with 57 points, while Plattsburgh State finished first with 22 points. St. Michaels College edged Clarkson for third place with 54 points. Norwich was fourth (115), SUNY IT, fifth (155), Paul Smith’s, sixth (170) and Oneonta State finished seventh (178).
Senior Sam Morse (Camden) placed eighth (27:26) and classmate Dan Ver (Buffalo, NY) was 11th (28:13). Freshman Mike Ives (Ogdensburg, NY) was 20th (29:17) and senior Dan Marker (Elmira, NY) finished 22nd (29:21).
