CLARKSON GAINS ONE-GOAL WIN at HAMILTON

April 13, 2005

The Clarkson University Lacrosse team won its second straight Liberty League game on the road with a 10-9 victory at Hamilton College on Wednesday evening. The Golden Knights, who led 3-2 after the opening 15 minutes and 7-3 at the half, were out scored 6-3 over the final 30 minutes, including by a 3-0 margin in the fourth quarter, but were able to hold off the Continentals (8-2, 1-1) to hand the home team only its second loss of the season.

Liberty League Rookie of the Week, freshman Jon Cathcart (Homer, NY) scored two goals along with junior Bryan Johnson (Newark, NY) and freshman Steve Kennedy (Niskayuna, NY) to power the Clarkson offense. Junior Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) posted 10 saves in the Knights’ goal, including eight in the
second half, and picked up six ground balls.

Kennedy and sophomore Mike McKenna (Camden, DE) scored 70 seconds apart late in the third quarter to give the Green and Gold a 10-6 lead with 6:18 remaining in the stanza. Hamilton, however, made it close with three unanswered tallies in the final quarter, including Clark Winter’s fourth goal of the game with 39 seconds left.

Senior Rich Burritt (Oswego, NY) chipped in one goal and one assist along with eight ground balls, while junior Jon Parks (Canton, NY) and sophomore Bryan Jackson (Northport, NY) added one apiece for the Knights.
Clarkson out shot the Continentals 38-34 and held a 37-28 advantage in ground balls.

The Golden Knights, who have won four of their last five, own a 5-4 overall record
and stand at 2-0 in the conference. Clarkson opens a three-game home stand by
hosting league rival Rensselaer at Hantz Field this Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
