HANSEN STOPS 14 BUT KNIGHTS OFFENSE SHUT DOWN IN 1-0 LOSS TO NIAGARA

Niagara, NY - Another overwhelming performance by the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team went for naught on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Knights lost 1-0 to Niagara University, going winless for the weekend for the first time since the middle of October.

The 8th-ranked Green and Gold fell to 11-6-1 overall while the Purple Eagles improved to 6-9-1. Clarkson is off for the next three weeks, returning to action in the final days of December when they play Boston College in Lake Placid, NY.

After two scoreless period, Candice Boyles finally broke through to put the Purple Eagles ahead with her second goal of the season at 11:13 of the third period, shooting the puck past Clarkson goaltender Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, ALB). Emilie Castonguay and Meagan Smith each picked up assists on the game's lone goal.

Clarkson dominated play through most of the game, but was most emphatic in the second period with a 20-2 shot advantage. Clarkson was up 12-8 in the first period and 6-5 in the third period for a 38-15 advantage in shots on goal. The Golden Knights went scoreless in seven power play opportunities while Niagara was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage. Clarkson has been unable to convert on their last 17 power play chances.

Hansen made 14 saves in her first start of the season while Allison Rutledge made 38 saves for the shutout.
