CLARKSON FALLS by ONE GOAL at #2 MIAMI

December 10, 2005

A bid by the Clarkson University Hockey team to earn a win on the road against the number-two ranked team in the country fell just short as Miami University gained a 2-1 victory over the Golden Knights at Goggin Ice Arena in Oxford, Ohio on Saturday night.

Sophomore assistant captain Nick Dodge (Oakville, ONT) gave Clarkson a 1-0 lead with his second shorthanded marker of the season and seventh goal of the year. Killing off Miami’s fourth power play of the opening stanza, Dodge picked up a loose puck between two RedHawk forwards, broke in alone and snapped off a shot in tight for an unassisted goal with 1:42 remaining in the period.

Miami, boasting the top-ranked penalty-killing unit in the country answered back with its own man-down goal to tie the game with Nathan Davis’ score at 11:28 of the middle frame.

The RedHawks tallied the go-ahead goal during a scramble in the Clarkson zone with Andy Greene netting the game-winner at 6:58 of the third.

The Green and Gold out shot Miami 29-27. Junior Kyle McNulty (Wakefield, RI) posted 25 saves for the Knights. Clarkson was 0-of-6 on the power play, while the RedHawks were 0-of-7 with the man advantage.

Clarkson, which rallied for a 6-4 win at Bowling Green on Friday, takes a 10-5-1 overall record into the exam/holiday break.
