Toggenburg Mountain - Sophomore Krista Hoisington (Kingfield, ME) and senior Josh Edlinger (Margaretville, NY) each took home combined points titles this weekend as the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team opened the 2005 season with a pair of victories at the Colgate Invitational.
The Clarkson women placed first in the slalom and giant slalom, ahead of Colgate and Hamilton in the overall standings. The Golden Knights' men's team was first overall in both events as well, finishing on top of Colgate and Army in the combined standings.
Hoisington finished in first place in the slalom and second in the giant slalom for the combined title. Freshman Mallory Gilmore (Woodbury, CT) came in second overall with a fourth-place showing in the slalom and a first-place finish in the giant slalom. Beth Davis (Marshfield, VT) finished third overall, coming in third in both events. Sophomore Katelyn Wagner (Troy, NY) was fourth, placing second in the slalom and fifth in the giant slalom. Freshman Margot Epstein (Sodus, NY) was fifth overall, finishing ninth in the slalom and seventh in the giant slalom.
On the men's side, the performance by Clarkson wasn't as dominating as it was on the women's, but it was more than enough for the Knights to pick up the pair of victories. Edlinger came in first in both the slalom and giant slalom for his first-place combined title. Sophomore Brad White (Watertown, NY) ended up in fourth place overall with a third-place finish in the slalom and a fifth-place showing in the giant slalom. Other top performers for Clarkson were senior Greg Gorman (Claremont, NH), who came in fifth in the slalom and 10th in the giant slalom, freshman Rob Reed (West Suffield, CT), who came in 13th in the slalom and 17th in the giant slalom, and junior Toby Shaughnessey (Natick, MA), who finished in 14th in the giant slalom.
