Potsdam, NY – Freshman Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) scored on a wrap-around shot with just 1:35 remaining as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team was able to salvage a 2-2 non-league tie against Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

The Golden Knights moved to 7-9-6 on the season while Quinnipiac improved to 4-16-2.

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard first with a power-play marker at 10:06 in the first period. After a boarding penalty at the 8:37 mark, Quinnipiac defensemen Karrah Stephen slipped the puck into the slot to Natashia Pellat, who walked in and scored her fourth goal of the season 89 seconds in to the man-advantage. Vicky Graham was also awarded an assist. Other than the lone goal on the power play, neither team could muster much offensively in the opening 20 minutes, as the two teams combined for just nine shots.

A scramble in front of the net led to the Bobcats’ second goal at the 8:03 mark of the middle frame. Ashley Jaffray scored her seventh goal of the season with an assist going to Gillian Gallagher. The Knights finally got on the scoreboard when, at the 12:37 mark, sophomore Jill Nolan (Labrador, NF) jammed home her eighth goal of the season inside the left goal post. Classmate Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) picked up an assist on Nolan’s score.

In the third period, the Golden Knights scrambled to the home tie when Beazer scored on a wrap-around shot, her sixth goal of the season, with under two minutes to play. Shaidle picked up another assist, her seventh of the season.

After the first period, the Golden Knights out shot Quinnipiac 22-10. The game was played virtually penalty-free, with no infractions called in the final 25 minutes. Sophomore goaltenders Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, ALB) and Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) combined to make 14 saves for the Golden Knights, with McDonald moving to 5-8-3 on the season, while Catherine Lapare stopped 23 shots for the Bobcats.
