BREWERS SHUT DOWN KNIGHTS, 2-0

Potsdam, NY - Claire Beitcher and Sarah Combs each contributed goals as Vassar College defeated the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team 2-0 in a Liberty League contest Friday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the Liberty League, while the Brewers moved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Clarkson hosts Rensselaer at 2:00 pm on Saturday.

Clarkson started off the game with several scoring chances, but it was the Brewers that would get on the scoreboard first, scoring on their first shot on goal. Claire Beitcher pounded in a shot from in close after a deflection to put Vassar up 1-0 at the 28:28 mark of the first half. Kate Bossange was awarded an assist on the goal.

Sarah Combs scored the Brewers second goal when she weaved through several defenders on the left side and took a shot from about eight yards out that was out of the reach of goaltender Lauren Arredondo (Allendale, NJ).

Vassar out shot Clarkson 8-5 and held a small 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Lisa Strumwasser stopped two shots for the shutout, while Arredondo and Meagan Emlaw (Norwood, NY), who played the first half of the game, combined for three saves.
