SECOND-HALF SURGE LEADS HAMILTON PAST CLARKSON

Canton, NY - Hamilton College broke open a tight game after 30 minutes with a strong second-half effort to defeat the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team 12-6 at St. Lawrence's North Country Field on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
Tied 4-4 at the half, the Continentals (4-4, 1-2 UCAA) out scored the Golden Knights 8-2 over the final 30 minutes, including a 5-1 margin in the fourth quarter. Clarkson held a 5-4 lead when freshman Mike McKenna (Camden, DE) scored 32 seconds into the third quarter, but Hamilton scored eight of the last nine goals to pull out the win. The Continentals took the lead for good on Scott Cohen’s second goal of the contest at 12:47 of the third.

Senior attackman Patrick Ryan (Canton, NY) led Clarkson with two goals and two assists. Sophomore A.J. Heiligman (Webster, NY) also scored twice for the Knights, while junior Richard Burritt (Oswego, NY) tallied one goal for the Green and Gold.
 
Cohen led all scorers with a game-high three goals. George Earle, Jack Newton and Mike Daley chipped in two goals apiece for the Continentals. Jim Henry netted a goal and three assists, while Kevin St. John and Eric Luoma also recorded goals to round out Hamilton’s scorers.
 
Clarkson held a slight 35-34 shot advantage, but Hamilton controlled the groundballs by a 36-25 margin.  Eric Kaplan made 15 saves for the Continentals, while senior Brian Pratt (Randolph, NJ) posted 12 stops for the Knights.

At 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the UCAA, the Knights take to the road for three straight games beginning with this Saturday's lleague contest at Rensselaer, game time 2:00 p.m.
