Troy, NY - Rensselaer outscored the Clarkson University Men’s Lacrosse team 7-2 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 13-7 victory in Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) action in Troy, NY on Saturday afternoon.
Tied 4-4 at the half, the Golden Knights, who never led in the contest, forced a 5-5 tie with junior Richard Burritt’s (Oswego, NY) goal with 2:25 left in the third quarter, but the Engineers answered back with five straight goals and eight of the final 10 scores to gain the victory.
Clarkson senior attackman Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) led all scorers with four goals and one assist. Classmates Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) and Patrick Ryan (Canton, NY) also scored a goal each for the Knights.
Adam LoGuidice and Lucas Ruglis scored three goals apiece to lead the Engineers (9-2, 3-0 UCAA).
Senior Brian Pratt (Randolph, NJ) made seven saves on 19 shots in the Clarkson goal. Sophomore Dustin Mackin (Falmouth, ME) played the final 17 seconds for the Knights in goal.
Clarkson will look to snap out of a two-game tailspin and improve upon its 4-6 overall record, including a 1-2 mark in the UCAA, when it plays at league foe Union College on Sunday, April 18.
