YOUNGMANN SCORES COLLEGIATE-HIGH, BUT GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL IN ECAC SEMIFINALS

March 6, 2004

Schenectady, NY - Freshman forward Jon Youngmann (Corinth, NY) scored a career-high 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field, but the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team had its season ended in a 72-51 loss to Geneseo State in the semifinal round of the ECAC Upstate New York Tournament Saturday afternoon at Union College.

The Golden Knights closed the season with a 16-12 record overall, while Geneseo State improved to 19-9.

The Golden Knights trailed by only six points at the half, but fell behind by dougle digits when they could not improve on their form from the field. Clarkson shot just 16.1 percent in the second half and 26.7 percent from the field (16-for-60 as a team) and only 11-for-53 from the floor without Youngmann. In contrast, the Blue Knights of Geneseo had no trouble with the Union rims, shooting 53.8 percent for the game.

Senior guard Josh Harner (Houston, TX) was the only other Clarkson player to reach double-figures in points, finishing with 10 in the game and a season-total of 448. With 1,169 career points, Harner closed his career in 10th place all-time at Clarkson in scoring. Harner also made two 3-pointers, becoming only the second player in Golden Knights' basketball history to record more than 200 3-pointers in his career.

The four Clarkson seniors, Harner, Kevin Williams (Syracuse, NY), Dan Broderick (Essex, NY) and Eric Wallace (Ilion, NY) finished with the second-highest total of wins over a four-year span for the Golden Knights.

Joe Zera scored 19 points and John Kleis added 16 points to lead the Blue Knights.
