KNIGHTS ELIMINATED FROM UCAA TOURNAMENT WITH 79-68 LOSS TO HAMILTON

February 27, 2004

Clinton, NY - Senior guard Josh Harner (Houston, TX) scored 15 points to lead four Clarkson University Men's Basketball players in double-figures as the Golden Knights dropped a 79-68 decision to Hamilton in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) Playoffs at Hamilton College's Scott Field House.

The Golden Knights move to 15-11 on the season, while Hamilton moves to 18-7 overall. The Continentals will face Rensselaer in the UCAA Championship game at 4:00 pm Saturday afternoon.

In similar fashion to last week's loss to the Continentals, the Golden Knights fell behind by double-digits in the first half and struggled to recover. Clarkson shot 32.4 percent from the floor in the first half, making only one of their five 3-point attempts. Hamilton faired only slightly better, making 17 of their 41 shots for a 41.5 percentage from the floor.

Clarkson played even with the Continentals in the second half, besting Hamilton by a single point, but could not cut significantly into the lead. The Golden Knights finished 24-for-65 from the field and 5-for-14 from the 3-point line and were out rebounded by Hamilton 49-38.

Harner finished the game 5-for-15 from the floor with two 3-pointers, tying the single-season school record for 3-pointers in a season by hitting his 81st 3-pointer. He was also selected to the UCAA All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the tournament.

Sophomore Russ Vitallo (Dracut, MA) added 10 points while freshmen Nick Jones (Washington, DC) and Jon Youngmann (Corinth, NY) each scored 10 points. Kevin Williams (Syracuse, NY) grabbed 10 rebounds, becoming just the second Clarkson guard in history to record 500 rebounds in his career.
