JONES' 32-POINT NIGHT LEADS CLARKSON TO FIRST WIN AT HAMILTON SINCE 1970s

January 30, 2004

Nick Jones scored a season-high 32 points in Friday's win
Clinton, NY - Freshman forward Nick Jones (Washington, DC) continued his meteoric rise for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team, scoring a career-high 32 points on 14-for-23 shooting to lead the Golden Knights to their first win, an 85-80 victory, at Hamilton since the 1971-72 season.

The Golden Knights improved to 11-6 overall and maintained their first-place standing in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) at 5-1. Hamilton fell to 11-5 overall and 3-3 in the UCAA. Clarkson had lost their last 20 games at Hamilton and have only beaten the Continentals twice since the UCAA opened as a conference.

Jones' 32 points was the highest single-game point total for a Clarkson player since Josh Harner (Houston, TX) scored 32 against Hobart February 14, 2003. Jones was 3-for-5 from beyond the 3-point line.

After turning the ball over 20 times against St. Lawrence on Tuesday, the Golden Knights were much more careful with the ball with only eight turnovers against Hamilton, allowing Clarkson to take 73 shots despite being outrebounded 38-33.

Senior guard Josh Harner scored 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting, including 3-for-7 from the 3-point line.

Greg Leone scored 25 points and Joe Smith added 22 points for Hamilton. Tsakane Ngobeni added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Continentals.

Clarkson looks to improve upon its UCAA record when they visit Hobart College at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
