Utica, NY - Sophomore Sarah Morris (Amherst, NY) didn't finish first in any events, but swam off events to tally additional points as the Clarkson University Women's Swim team defeated Utica College 125-102 Saturday afternoon. The men's team cruised to a 139-51 victory.
Morris, swimming in unconventional events for her talents, finished second in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle races in events that the Golden Knights needed to record additional points to pick up the victory. Jen Faucett (Charlton, NY) was the big winner for Clarkson, taking first in the 200 freestyle and in the 100 butterfly in addition to swimming on the winning 200 freestyle relay. Freshman Emily MacWilliams (Watkins Glen, NY) won the 50 freestyle, junior Molly Nichols (Baldwinsville, NY) won the 100 back stroke, and senior Veronica Wolak (Rhinebeck, NY) came in first in the 100 freestyle. Clarkson also won both relays.
In addition to Morris, Samantha Bragan (Aubnrn, NY) also swam on off events, placing second in 1650 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle.
On the men's side, the Golden Knights glided by Utica with two wins in the relays and several other victories in the indivudal events. Matt Szrama (Orchard Park, NY) won two events, winning the 400 individual medley and 100 freestyle. Jon Peck (East Hartford, CT) won the 1650 freestyle, Gerard Flynn (Liverpool, NY) won the 200 freestyle, Tom Willey (Burnt Hills, NY) came in first in the 50 freestyle, Kevin Ashcroft (Wolverine Lake, MI) took first in the 100 butterfly, Tom Brunt (Loundonville, NY) won the 100 back stroke and Dominic Desiderio (Derby, NY) placed first in the 100 breast stroke.
