Potsdam, NY - The Clarkson University Women's Hockey team saw its three-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Monday evening as the University of North Dakota handed the Golden Knights a 5-2 loss before 185 fans at Cheel Arena.
The Knights, who lost for the first time in five games, stand at 10-8-3. Clarkson is off until next Tuesday when it hosts Utica College in a 6:00 p.m. game at Cheel.
Stasia Bakhit recorded a hat trick to lead the UND to its sixth win of the year. Bakhit broke a 2-2 tie midway through the second period with a shorthanded breakaway goal, the first man-down of the season against Clarkson, at 11:22. She added UND’s fourth goal at 3:13 of the third and then put the game away with her team-high 11th goal of the season at 11:43 to complete her three-goal outing.
North Dakota (6-13-2) opened the scoring 3:48 into the first Alexis Gagnon-Laplante tipped-in a power-play marker her sixth goal of the year. Clarkson took the lead with a pair of goals 1:49 apart late in the stanza. Emma Madigan (Mississauga, ONT) responded with her third goal of the season, a power-play tally at 17:16 to tie the score. With 55 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Jill Nolan (Labrador, NF) finished off a perfect pass from Carolynn Zidek (Chicago, ILL) on a 2-on-1 break to give the Knights a 2-1 advantage.
At 2:33 of the second, the Fighting Sioux evened the score on Anne Girtz backhand shot from the bottom of the right circle for her second goal of the season.
Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) posted 30 saves for the Knights as North Dakota outshot Clarkson 35-16. Amber Hasbargen made 14 stops for the Fighting Siouz. Clarkson was 1-of-6 on the power play, while UND went 1-of-4 with the man-advantage.
