Potsdam, NY – Senior guard Josh Harner (Houston, TX) scored a team-high 20 points thanks to five 3-pointers as the Clarkson University Men’s Basketball team held on for a 51-50 lead over Hilbert College Saturday afternoon at Clarkson’s Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights were outscored 12-3 at the opening of the first half as they struggled to make any shots from the field, opening the game with a 1-for-6 performance. Trailing 17-9 at 8:44, Clarkson outscored the Hawks 14-6 in the final minutes to take a 23-20 lead.

Clarkson took a double-digit lead late in the first half after holding Hilbert without a field goal for a six-minute stretch. However, the Golden Knights lost a 45-34 advantage in the final minutes and held on as Sam Gioia, who scored a game-high 22 points, made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to close the gap to a single point.

Freshman Nick Jones (Washington, DC) scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds for the Golden Knights, while Kevin Williams (Syracuse, NY) added seven points and five rebounds. Mike Zmuda shot 4-for-6 from the floor for Hilbert, scoring 11 points.

The Golden Knights have their toughest test of the season in their next game when they face off against Division I Davidson College on December 19th.
