CLARKSON FALLS IN OPENING ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Clarkson University Lacrosse team's return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years did not go as planned as the Golden Knights fell to the number three-ranked team in the country SUNY
Cortland 9-1 on Wednesday at the Red Dragons' Davis Field. Clarkson closes out the 2002 campaign with an 11-2 overall record, which included a perfect 6-0 mark in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association.

Things started out well enough for the Knights as they opened their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1992 as junior Matt Diana (Marshfield, MA) scored on the first shot of the game at 3:28 to give Clarkson the early 1-0 lead. Junior Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) picked up the assist. After that, however, it was all red and white as Cortland, with the fifth ranked defense in the country, scored nine unanswered goals to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Division III Tournament. The Red Dragons (16-2) scored three times in the first 15 minutes and added three more in the second quarter to take a commanding 6-1 lead at the half. Cortland when up 7-1 after 45 minutes with the lone goal of the third quarter. The Red Dragons closed out the game with two more goals in the fourth stanza for the 9-1 final.

Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) made 15 saves in the Clarkson goal.

CLARKSON RALLIES FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN
Potsdam, NY - An explosive fourth-quarter surge lifted the Clarkson University Lacrosse team to a 12-9 victory over league foe Skidmore College at Hantz Field in the final game of the regular season. The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) Champions, the Golden Knights own an 11-1 overall record, including a perfect 6-0 mark in the league. Ranked 11th in the country, Clarkson will carry a six-game winning streak into the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Knights' opponent and the site of Wednesday's opening round of play in the Division III tournament will be announced Sunday night.

Trailing 8-6 entering the fourth quarter, the Knights behind the play of juniors Marty Reid (Hamburg, NY) and Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) and sophomore Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) outscored the Thoroughbreds 6-1 over the final 15 minutes to pull out the victory. Reid, who recorded eight points in the win, scored three of his game-high six goals in the final stanza, including the go-ahead goal, which put the Green and Gold on top 9-8 with 8:40 to play. Lavelle scored six points on three goals and three assists, while Pearce, who scored both of his goals in the fourth quarter, contributed five points. Senior Mike Storms (Adams, NY) added Clarkson's other goal.

Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) posted 11 saves in the Clarkson goal.

Junior Andy Meehan and freshman Brendan Bellefeuille led the Skidmore attack with two goals each. Senior Tim Harvey made 14 stops for the Thoroughbreds, who close out the year with an 8-5 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the UCAA.

CLARKSON WINS 10th of the SEASON
The Clarkson University Lacrosse team reached the 10-win mark for the first time since 1991 by posting a 12-7 victory at Keuka College on Saturday afternoon. Junior attackman Marty Reid (Hamburg, NY) led the Golden Knights with five goals and two assists. Junior Ryan Bodkin (East Amherst, NY) chipped in three goals.

After falling behind 3-1 after the first quarter, Clarkson gained a 4-1 advantage over the Storm in the second to hold a 5-4 lead at the half. The Knights dominated over the final 30 minutes outscoring Keuka 7-3 to win their fifth straight game. Ranked 16th in the country, the Knights converted on all five of their man-up opportunities in the third quarter.

Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) made 13 saves.

Owning a 10-1 overall record, Clarkson will look to improve upon its 5-0 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) mark when it closes out the regular season on Saturday, May 4 as it hosts league foe Skidmore in a 2:00 p.m. game at Hantz Field. The Knights, who have gained an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the UCAA title with last Wednesday's 11-6 win over St. Lawrence, will begin postseason play on Wednesday, May 8.

CLARKSON WINS UCAA TITLE WITH 11-6 WIN OVER ST. LAWRENCE
Knights Gain Bid to NCAA Tournament

Potsdam, N.Y. - Freshman goaltender Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) posted a season-high 21 saves, while junior attackmen Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) and Marty Reid (Hamburg, NY) scored three goals apiece to lead the Clarkson University Lacrosse team to an 11-6 victory over arch-rival St. Lawrence before an overflowing capacity crowd of 750 at Hantz Field on Wednesday afternoon. Winners of four straight, the Golden Knights, ranked 16th in the nation, claimed the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) title with a 5-0 league mark and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament that comes with the conference crown.

Clarkson, which never trailed in the game, grabbed a 2-0 first period lead on a pair of goals from leading scorer Lavelle. St. Lawrence, which also enter the contest with a 4-0 league mark, tied it early in the second on goals by Josh Feine and Rob Russell before Clarkson answered back with three straight goals to grab a 5-2 lead after 30 minutes. UCAA Rookie of the Week Rich Burritt (Oswego, NY) put the Knights on top with 5:54 left in the second quarter and then freshman Chris Stock (Penfield, NY) and Reid scored in the final 26 seconds of the half to give the Green and Gold the three-goal margin. The Saints made it 5-3 to start the third on Feine's second goal of the game, but the Knights came back with goals by freshman Josh Jaufmann (Fairport, NY) and sophomore Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) to build a 7-3 lead after three quarters. The Saints scored again early in the fourth on Russell's second goal of the game 15 seconds after the faceoff, but Clarkson went on to score four of the last six goals to claim the University's first ever UCAA Regular Season Championship in any sport.

Pearce finished with two goals and two assists for the Knights, while Feine and Russell both scored three goals for St. Lawrence (8-3), which enter the game ranked 20th in the country.

Stephen Salotti finished with 18 saves for the Saints.

With a 9-1 overall record, Clarkson, closes out the regular season with a non-league game at Keuka College this Saturday and a UCAA contest against Skidmore at Hantz Field on May 4. The pairings for the 16-team NCAA Division III Tournament will be announced on May 5 with tournament first-round competition starting on Wednesday, May 8.

CLARKSON GOES TO 4-0 in UCAA
Poughkeepsie, NY - Freshman midfielder Richard Burritt (Oswego, NY) scored three goals to lead a balanced Golden Knight attack as the Clarkson University Lacrosse team improved its record to 4-0 in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) by defeating Vassar College 17-2 on the road Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson, at 8-1 overall, will host North Country rival St. Lawrence University, also 4-0 in the UCAA and 8-2 overall, on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. on Hantz Field in a game that could determine the league championship, which would be an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

Against the Brewers on Saturday, the Knights dominated throughout taking a 9-0 halftime lead. Eleven different Clarkson players scored goals as the Knights won their third in a row. Juniors Matt Diana (Marshfield, MA) and Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY), sophomore Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) and freshman Matt Rivers (Oswego, NY) all scored two goals apiece in Clarkson's most explosive offensive outing of the spring.

All four Clarkson goaltenders saw action. Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) (1), juniors Eric LaCourse (Webster, NY) (3), Tom Sheridan (Fairport, NY) (2) and Brian Pratt (Randolph, NJ) (2) combined for eight saves as the Green and Gold outshot Vassar 48-17. The Knights also dominated on groundballs holding a 64-48
advantage.

CLARKSON DOUBLES UP POTSDAM 12-6
The Golden Knights' leading scorer, junior attackman Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) added to his totals with a three-goal, three-assist effort as the Clarkson University Lacrosse team defeated SUNY Potsdam 12-6 on the Bears' home field Tuesday afternoon.

Through eight games, Lavelle, who was named UCAA Player of the Week, has scored 32 points on 20 goals and 12 assists. Freshman goaltender Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) posted 15 saves, while allowing five goals, as Clarkson, ranked 17th in the country, improved its record to 7-1.

The Knights broke open a tight 2-2 game after the first quarter by outscoring Potsdam 4-1 in the second to take a 6-3 halftime lead. Clarkson outscored the Bears 3-1 in the third and 3-2 in the fourth for the final six-goal margin.

Junior Ryan Bodkin (East Amherst, NY), sophomore Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) and freshman Chris Stock (Penfield, NY) added two goals apiece. Junior Marty Reid (Hamburg, NY) chipped in one goal and two assists, while sophomores Patrick Ryan (Canton, NY) and Drew Burke (Liverpool, NY) scored one goal each.

Clarkson out shot Potsdam (3-5) 40-26 and held a 31-24 advantage on groundballs. Unbeaten in Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) play with a 3-0 conference record, the Knights resume league play at Vassar College this Saturday.

CLARKSON RUNS BY RENSSELAER 15-7
Junior Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) and freshman Chris Stock (Penfield, NY) both scored five goals and two assists to pace the Clarkson University Lacrosse team to a 15-7 victory over Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) foe Rensselaer at Hantz Field on Saturday afternoon. Ranked 16th in the country entering the week, the Golden Knights improved their record to 6-1 overall and remain unbeaten in the UCAA with a 3-0 league mark. Rensselaer, which suffered its fourth straight loss, falls to 5-5 overall and to 1-3 in the conference.

Looking to snap a seven-game losing skid to the Engineers, Clarkson jumped out to a 5-0 first-quarter lead and held an 8-2 advantage at the half. Rensselaer cut into the Clarkson lead in the third quarter by outscoring the Green and Gold 3-2, but the Knights sealed the victory with the first five goals in the final quarter.

Five different Knights scored in the fourth as Lavelle, junior Matt Diana (Marshfield, MA), senior Mike Burgess (Watertown, NY), Stock and sophomore Sean Perace (Auburn, NY) all tallied in the final 15 minutes as the Knights built a 15-5 lead en route to their first win over the Engineers since 1994. Rensselaer scored its last two goals in the final three minutes.

Clarkson, which received another solid defensive effort, outshot Rensselaer 42-20 and held a 67-41 advantage on groundballs during the contest, which was played in a steady rain.

Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) posted five saves in the Knights' goal, while allowing five goals through 55 minutes of play. Junior Tom Sheridan (Fairport, NY) played the final five minutes in goal and recorded one stop, while allowing two goals.

PLATTSBURGH SHOCKS CLARKSON 6-5
The Golden Knights bid to post the best start ever in Clarkson history was derailed by SUNY Plattbsurgh on Wednesday as the Cardinals upset the 16th ranked Golden Knights 6-5 in Plattsburgh. Clarkson, which entered the game at 5-0, jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead, but the Cardinals (3-6) outscored the Green and Gold 4-0 in the second to hold a one-goal lead after 30 minutes. The Knights tied it in third 4-4, but Plattsburgh on the strength of two goals by Jason Lappies, including the game-winner with 5:08 left to play, pulled out the victory in the fourth quarter.

Junior Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) led Clarkson with three goals. Classmate Matt Diana (Marshfield, MA) tallied the other two goals for the Knights. Clarkson outshot Plattsburgh 33-25. Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) posted seven saves as he suffered his first collegiate loss for the Knights.

CLARKSON LACROSSE GOES TO 5-0
Behind a stingy defensive effort and some opportunistic scoring the Clarkson University Lacrosse team extended its season-opening win streak to 5-0 after defeating Hamilton College 13-5 in the home opener at Hantz Field on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights, who improved their record to 2-0 in the Upstate Collegiate Atheltic Association (UCAA), dominated the first half taking a 9-2 lead over the Continentals (3-3, 0-2 UCAA).

Clarkson's top scorer, sophomore attackman Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) added to his totals with a game-high five points, including four goals, three of which came in the first quarter as the Knights took a 5-1 lead in the opening 15 minutes. Through five games, Pearce has 15 goals and five assists.

Junior transfer Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) added two goals and two assists. Senior Mike Storms (Adams, NY) and junior Ryan Bodkin (East Amherst, NY) each contributed two goals. Freshman Chris Stock (Penfield, NY) chipped in one goal and an assist, while senior Mike Burgess (Watertown, NY) and junior Matt Diana (Marshfield, MA) scored one goal apiece.

Hamilton was led by freshman Jim Henry, who tallied two goals. The Knights held the UCAA's leading scorer junior Matt Silverio to one assist.

Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) made 17 saves to keep his collegiate record perfect at 5-0 in the Clarkson goal. Senior Brad Wolcott made 12 stops for Hamilton.

Senior Marty Thomas (Massena, NY) and juniors Greg Arnold (East Amherst, NY) and Ryan McCarthy (Camillus, NY) anchored a solid defensive showing by the Knights, who outshot Hamilton 41-23.

Ranked 20th in the country entering the week, Clarkson will look to continue its winning ways when it plays a non-league contest at SUNY Plattsburgh this Wednesday. Hamilton host league rival Rensselaer on Wednesday.

CLARKSON RUNS RECORD TO 4-0 WITH VICTORY IN UCAA OPENER
The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) campaign got off on the right note for the Clarkson University Lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Knights defeated Union College 12-11 in Schenectady. Trailing 10-8 after three quarters, Clarkson outscored the Dutchmen 4-1 over the final 15 minutes to gain the conference win on the road and in the process improved its record to 4-0.

Junior attackman Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) led the Knights offensively with four goals, while junior midfielder Matt Diana (Marshfield, MA) and sophomore attackman Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) added two goals apiece. Junior Marty Reid (Hamburg, NY), Lavelle, Diana and Pearce all scored one goal in the fourth as Clarkson built a 12-10 lead before Union tallied its final goal with five seconds remaining to make it a one-goal contest. The Knights opened the game with a 4-3 first-quarter advantage, but the Dutchmen outscored the Green and Gold 4-2 in the second frame to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.

Freshman Chris Stock (Penfield, NY) figured in on three Clarkson scores with one goal and two assists. Junior Greg Arnold added one goal and one assist, while senior Mike Storms (Adam, NY) chipped in one goal. Clarkson held a 33-18 shots on goal advantage. Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) kept his collegiate record perfect with seven saves in the Knights' goal.

CLARKSON WINS TERRENCE O'CONNOR TOURNAMENT TITLE
The Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team rallied with 11 unanswered goals to defeat host Alfred University 13-5 to win the Terrence O'Connor Tournament Championship on the Saxons' Merrill Field Sunday afternoon. The Golden Knights, who improved their record to 3-0, defeated Lycoming 9-5 in tournament first-round action on Saturday. Alfred (4-1), which defeated Brockport State 18-3 on Saturday, held a 5-2 lead with 12:45 left in the second quarter, but the Knights shut down the Saxons the rest of the way to gain the tournament title.

Clarkson cut the deficit to 5-4 at the half and then outscored the 17th-ranked Saxons 7-0 over the final 30 minutes. Senior Mike Burgess (Watertown, NY) scored a game-high four goals along with one assist, and sophomore attackman Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) added three goals and two assists to pace the Knights' offense, which threw 34 shots on the Alfred goal. Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) posted nine saves through 55 minutes of play to keep his collegiate record perfect in the Clarkson goal with a 3-0 mark. Junior Brian Pratt (Randolph, NJ) played five minutes in the Knights' crease and did not face a shot.

Freshman Chris Stock (Penfield, NY) scored twice for the Green and Gold, while juniors Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) and Ryan Bodkin (East Amherst, NY) chipped in one goal and one assist each. Junior Greg Arnold (East Amherst, NY) and sophomore Dan Amedro (Syracuse, NY) each scored once. Junior Marty Reid (Hamburg, NY) set-up four Clarkson goals.

Lycoming defeated Brockport 11-4 in the tournament consolation game. The Knights will look to continue their winning ways as they are scheduled to host Cazenovia College this Wednesday in a 3:30 p.m. game.

CLARKSON ADVANCES TO TERRENCE O'CONNOR TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
The Golden Knights Men's Lacrosse team improved its record to 2-0 by defeating Lycoming College 9-5 in the first round of the Terrence O'Connor Tournament at Alfred University on Saturday afternoon. Clarkson will face the host Saxons (4-0) in Sunday's tournament championship game at 2:00 p.m. Alfred defeated Brockport State 18-3 in the other first round game.

Senior Mike Storms (Adams, NY) and sophomore Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) led the Clarkson offense with two goals apiece, while freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) recorded seven saves in the Knights' goal to pace the Green and Gold to their second victory.

Junior Marty Reid (Hamburg, NY), sophomore Dan Amedro (Syracuse, NY) and freshman Chris Stock (Penfield, NY) added one goal and one assist each in the win. Juniors Ryan Bodkin (East Amherst, NY) and Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) also scored for Clarkson. Junior defenseman Patrick Ryan (Canton, NY) tallied on assist.

Dan Wilcox scored twice to lead Lycoming (3-2), while Sean Powers posted 12 saves in the Warriors' goal.

CLARKSON OPENS 2002 SEASON WITH VICTORY DOWN SOUTH OVER TOP 10 RANKED AMHERST
The Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team opened the 2002 campaign in successful fashion on Tuesday night in New Port Richie, Florida with a 13-10 victory over Amherst College, ranked 10th in the nation according to the latest NEILA Division III poll. Tied 5-5 at the half, the Golden Knights took a 10-8 lead in the third quarter and outscored Amherst 3-2 over the final 15 minutes to gain the victory in the season-opener for both teams.

Sophomore attackman Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) led Clarkson with four goals and one assist. Junior attackman Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) set-up four goals along with scoring once. Junior attackman Marty Reid (Hamburg, NY) tallied two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Mike Burgess (Watertown, NY) also scored twice.

Junior Ryan Bodkin (East Amherst, NY) (1-2) and freshmen Chris Stock (Penfield, NY) (1-1) and Josh Jaufmann (Fairport, NY) (1-0) also contributed offensively. Sophomores Dan Amedro (Syracuse, NY) and Patrick Ryan (Canton, NY) added one assist each. Harlow Voorhees led Amherst with four goals.

The Knights outshot Amherst 33-26. Freshman Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) made 12 saves to record the win in his first collegiate start in the Clarkson goal.
