CU Cross Country Preview - at Aldrich Invitational (9/13)

After a solid showing on a short course two weeks ago in Plattsburgh, the Clarkson University Cross Country team will head a little further east this weekend when it competes in the Aldrich Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College.

The Meet: Although Middlebury has been holding an annual race for some time now, the Panthers Invitational was renamed the Aldrich Invitational back in 2011 after its recently retired head coach. The Golden Knights have been competed in the event three times since 2021. The field will be made up of four Vermont schools (host Middlebury, Saints Michael's, Vermont State University Castleton, and Vermont State University Randolph) as well as the Golden Knights.

The Runners: Frank Consolazio had the top time among Clarkson competitors last year, finishing seventh in the field of 61 runners, closing out the 8000-meter event in 27 minutes, 38.4 seconds. Drew Reigelsperger had the next spot at 28:05.6 and James Lynch was just outside the top 15 in 28:56.8. For the women, Gianna Capoccia was 15th of 45 runners over 6000 meters with a time of 25:31.3. Skylar Francis was in the second half of the field at 26:58.3.

In the opening short course event at Plattsburgh two weeks ago, it was Reigelsperger and Francis that had the top times for the Knights. Matthew Clarner, James Lynch, and Frank Consolazio were in the top 15, followed closely by Finley Knappe (17), Jack Zeiber (18), and Tyson Fuller (19) were also inside the top 20 of the field of 78. Francis led the women (17th of 46) while Meagan Speizer was also in the top 20 for Clarkson.
