Ithaca, NY – Blasting three home runs in game one, the Clarkson University Softball team picked up a key split in its doubleheader against Ithaca College on Friday afternoon, winning the opener 6-4 before succumbing to the Bombers 13-2 in game two of the Liberty League twin bill.

The Golden Knights moved to 17-12 on the season while their conference mark goes to 5-3. The Bombers go to 18-5 and 6-2. Clarkson has a doubleheader scheduled against Union College on Saturday in Schenectady.

Ithaca appeared ready to run away with game one, scoring four times in the bottom of the first. Elise Waddington delivered an RBI single to push the first run across and then two runs scored on a sacrifice fly by Haley Petrucci, one coming home on the fly ball and another on a throw. The fourth run for the Bombers scored off an RBI single from Ava Rao.

Clarkson unleashed its power bats in the top of the third. Elissa Uveino singled and scored on a double to left center by Zoey Kovach. Devin Fitzpatrick then went to right field for an opposite field homer, her 10th of the season, pulling Clarkson within one at 4-3. Two batters later, Emily Bulone clubbed a shot to straight away center, tying the game at 4-4.

The Knights took the lead in the top of the fifth as Lexi Rydelek kept on her torrid streak, hitting her fourth home run of the season. In the sixth, Clarkson picked up a key insurance run as Fitzpatrick singled, moved to second on a throwing error, and then finished the circuit on a fielding error.

Fitzpatrick gained the win, scattering six hits over the final six innings after the initial four-run first. Fitzpatrick and Bulone each registered two hits in the game.

In game two, Rydelek homered to straight away center in the second inning, her fifth of the year and second of the doubleheader, to put Clarkson up 1-0. However, Ithaca racked up seven runs in the third and then six more in the fourth. Petrucci and Belle De Oliviera had the big blows of the third inning, Petrucci singling in a pair and de Oliviera homering to left-center to score two more. Ithaca's fourth saw the Bombers string six hits together around a pair of outs, which allowed the hosts to pull away for an abbreviated win. Clarkson would pick up an extra run in the top of the fifth, an RBI double from Kovach that scored Emma Sabourin.

Kovach was the lone Clarkson player to record multiple hits in game two, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Mady Rowell gained the win for Ithaca, giving up six hits and two earned runs in five innings of work.
