Knights Erupt for Three Second-Half Goals in Victory over Bard

Potsdam, N.Y. - A brace from senior Paige Ford along with another from Brooke Everest lifted the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Bard College on senior day, Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson improves to 3-6-3 overall, 1-4-1 in conference play. The team will travel to Troy, N.Y. next Saturday to take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Knights provided the goalmouth action in the first half of play, out shooting Bard 8-0 through the opening 45. Gabrielle Cyganick forced McKenna Reeves into action early on in goal for the Raptors, as the freshman tested Reeves with two left-footed attempts in the 7th and 8th minute. Reeves was up to the test early, stopping both shots.

Ford provided Clarkson with the best chance of the half in the 29th minute. A cross in from the right wing dropped right to the foot of the forward who hit the ball on the volley from just outside of the six yard box. The shot flew just wide of the right post and out of play as both teams went into the half locked at 0-0.

As the second opened up, so did the offensive opportunities for the Knights as Ford would capitalize early in the 46th minute to put Clarkson up 1-0. Avianna Johnson picked up the ball in midfield and sent a beautiful through ball down the left side that sent Ford in on a 1v1. With just the keeper to beat, the senior took a touch to her left and tucked a shot past Reeves to give Clarkson the advantage.

In the 53rd minute, Everest would add a second for the Knights off a free-kick from near midfield. Julia Tylar floated a long ball into a dangerous area around the penalty spot where Everst met it with her head, directing it into the bottom right corner of the net.

Not finished just yet, the Knights would add a third in the 69th minute. In an eerily similar setup to her first, Ford again would chase down a long ball on the left wing, this time taking several touches towards goal before then slotting another left-footed shot into the back of the Raptor net for her second of the day.

Bard constructed a few chances of their own as the final whistle approached, in the 82nd minute Carina Cooke found herself on a 1v1 with Isabelle Wood after a ball from midfield managed to get through the Clarkson back line. Wood managed to get off her line to close any shooting angle down and keep the shot out. The visitors would spoil the shutout bid by Clarkson in the 84th minute, as a free-kick of their own from near half-field bounced through a crowd in front of the goal, falling to the feet of Isabella Vinces, who turned on the ball and sent a right-footed shot past Wood for 3-1.

Clarkson held a stark advantage in shots (15-3) and shots on goal (11-2) as the 11 shots on goal were the team's second highest up to this point in the season. Bard would hold a slight advantage in corners, 7-6. Wood made just 1 save in goal for the Knights, Reeves made 8 on the other end for the Raptors.
