Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Medina and Shufelt Lead Knights In Victory

Canton, N.Y.- Keeping the third clean sheet of the season, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team earned a 2-0, mid-week victory, Wednesday afternoon.

The Knights improve to 4-0-2 on the season, remaining undefeated, headed into a weekend contest with the University of Rochester, on Saturday.

Clarkson came close to opening the scoring in the 2nd minute, as a ball through Canton's backline fell at the feet of Jonathan Dereka, who found himself with just the goalie to beat from the right side of the box. The ensuing shot slipped just wide of the right post as the Knights looked to keep the pressure on early.

The Knights would come close again in the 13th minute off a series of combination passing between the frontline. Jay Jezioro received a pass with his back towards goal on the edge of the 18 yard box, setting up Brody Frankowski shot which was saved by a diving Canton goalkeeper.

Clarkson continued to use constant pressure to build chances throughout the first half but just could not find the finishing touch. A cross in from Dereka from the right side, after a cleared corner, would travel all the way to the back post, finding the head of Remi Uhfeil whose shot went wide of the left side of the net.

The hosts best chance of the half presented itself in the 31st minute off a cross into the box from the left wing. Markel Mosley climbed above the defense to head the ball towards goal as Carter Kladstrup claimed the shot for his limited action through the half.

With under ten seconds remaining before the break, the post denied another scoring opportunity for the Knights as Cole Mueller unleashed a rocket from just outside the box, which rebounded back off the left post. A Kangaroo defender was first to the ball, clearing the danger away as time expired.

The second half started much the same as the first ended with Clarkson dictating play across the field. Daniel Medina started a barrage of chances in the 47th minute, cutting inside to his right, curling a shot towards the bottom left corner, forcing a diving stop by Nolan Sullivan in net. It didn't take long for Medina to create the opener in the 58th minute. Driving down the left wing, the forward stopped on a dime and unleashed another right footed strike towards the net. The shot took a slight deflection off a defender, hit the underside of the crossbar bouncing the right side of the goal.

Clarkson added a second tally three minutes later as Luis Cervantes picked up a loose cross on the right wing just outside the 18 yard box. His low shot through the crowd looked headed for the bottom left corner but was tapped in by Zach Shufelt at the back post to eliminate any doubt.

As the second half progressed the Green and Gold continued to dominate play, using possession and high pressing to win the ball back quickly. Sullivan continued to hold strong in net for Canton making several clean saves keeping the Clarkson attack from building upon the lead.

Kladstrup was credited with four saves in the effort for the Knights while Sullivan stopped 10 for the hosts. Clarkson dominated in shots (26-5) and shots on goal (13-4), registering 13 shots in each half.
