Knights Suffer First Loss of 2024 Versus Rowan

Sparks, MD – The middle two quarters saw the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team struggle on offense and defense as the Golden Knights suffered their first defeat of 2024, an 18-4 loss against Rowan University at Tierney Field on the USA Lacrosse Facility.

The Golden Knights dropped to 4-1 on the season while the Profs improved to 3-4. Clarkson will face Hood College on Wednesday afternoon.

Clarkson and Rowan played essentially even in the first quarter with just one goal and one shot separating the two squads through 15 minutes. A late goal from Elaina Corson seemed to be a harmless tally at the end of the first, but it sparked a streak of 10 straight goals for the Profs, and a stretch where Rowan tallied 14 of 15 goals. Clarkson went 25 minutes without a goal and had only one in roughly 39 minutes of play.

Rowan finished with a 25-14 edge in shots on goal and a 34-18 advantage in shots overall. Clarkson was undermined by seven minutes of cards where the team was down a player due to infraction. Rowan had 19 turnovers to Clarkson's 15, the Knights led in groundballs 17-16, and draws were nearly even at 13-11 in favor of the Profs.

Madelynn Barnum scored two goals, caused four turnovers, picked up five groundballs and added six draw controls. Julia Lavarnway produced two points on a goal and one assist and Grace Graney also scored a goal. Maeve Bartell caused three turnovers and scooped up two groundballs. Jennaca McGill made seven stops in the crease for the Knights, tacking on five groundballs and two caused turnovers.

For Rowan, Mel Rodgers made 10 saves on 14 shots on goal. Elaina Corson had five points (4-1-5) and Calista Burke scored four goals. Molly Green also had three goals and an assist and Trish Gillen scored once with three assists.
