Makowski Third, Knights Runner-Up at Castleton Invitational

Rutland, VT – Freshman Ryan Makowski shot 156 over two days to finish third for the Clarkson University Golf team as the Golden Knights completed the Castleton Invitational, held at the par-70 Rutland Country Club.

The Golden Knights finished second out of seven teams with 645 strokes, improving by nine strokes from the first day with 318 strokes on Sunday. Clarkson trailed Norwich (634) and was ahead of New England College (667), Castleton (682), MCLA (684), Elms College (702), and VTSU Johnson (751).

Makowski backed up his 77 on Saturday with a 79 on day two to finish with a 36-hole score of 156 strokes, placing him third out of 35 competitors. Junior Andrew Palmatier was one shot behind Makowski, taking fourth in the field with a score of 157, including 78 on Sunday.

The other three golfers on the team shaved several strokes from their first day results. Eric Spoth tied for 10th in the field, scoring six fewer than his first round with a 79 on Sunday, for a two-day total of 164. Jace Dutch nearly matched Spoth's effort with an 82, five strokes less than his initial round, while Aaron Walsh was three strokes better with an 83 on Sunday. Both players finished in a tie for 17th with two-day scores of 169.
