Three Starters in Double Figures as Knights Hot Start Rolls SUNY Poly, 62-45

Utica, NY – An overwhelming first quarter put the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team in the driver's seat for the rest of the game as the Golden Knights rushed out to a 19-point lead after just 10 minutes and held on for a 62-45 victory against SUNY Poly on Friday evening.

The Golden Knights moved to 1-1 overall while the Wildcats fell in their season-opener. Clarkson will be back in action next Wednesday against SUNY Canton at Alumni Gymnasium.

Although it was a relatively slow start with just two points for each team in the first 2:30, a Bella Doyle 3-pointer got things rolling for the Knights as the team went on a 20-1 run for the final 7:22 of the opening quarter. The Wildcats, meanwhile, couldn't buy a basket, as they missed their first 16 shots from the floor before finally converting in the second quarter.

The margin never fell to single digits for the remainder of the game, as Clarkson doubled-up the Wildcats midway through the third quarter (44-22) after a layup from Cassidy Dumont. The lead eventually expanded to 23 following a pair of free throws in the final minute of the third from Raelin Burns, and the margin never dipped out of the teens for the fourth quarter.

Burns finished the game with a team-best 20 points, just one short of her career-high, thanks to 10-for-11 shooting from the free throw line. Cassidy Dumont was 6-for-10 from the floor for 18 points, while Bella Doyle was just shy of a double-double on 14 points and eight rebounds. Addie Kea also contributed nine rebounds and four assists and Emma Chambers matched Kea's rebound total with nine as well.

For SUNY Poly, Alivia Turk was a rebound short of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards, and Patricia Vanlue was also close with eight points and nine rebounds.
