Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Grady Scores Seventh in Knights 1-1 Tie Versus Union

Potsdam, NY – Scoring opportunities were few and far between for the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team and Union College on Saturday afternoon, but both teams still found a way to the back of the net in a 1-1 tie to close out the Liberty League regular-season.

Despite a strong campaign in which the team went 9-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in conference games, the tie allowed another team to leapfrog Clarkson in the standings so the Golden Knights will find themselves outside of the conference tournament. Union's tie coupled with other action around the league allowed the Garnet Chargers to jump into a first round bye, improving to 8-6-4 overall and 5-2-2 in conference games.

Only three shots five shots combined went on goal for the two teams, and no other close scoring chances really came through to artificially lessen that figure. Union got on the board in the first half as Robbie Michalski controlled the ball deep into the Clarkson defensive end on the right side of the goal. When his teammates caught up, he sent a pass back to Marco Perugini, and the freshman midfielder finished with a low shot at 25:18 to give Union the advantage.

With so few opportunities presenting themselves, Clarkson seemingly got a goal out of nowhere late in the second half. The Knights possessed the ball near the midfield, with Kai Endo sending a pass across to Zachary Appel. Appel then went short with a quick pass forward to Nolan Grady, who spent little time in creating the chance, rapidly turning and firing a shot into the top left corner of the goal with less than 12 minutes remaining. Grady's goal was the last shot of the game for either team.

Union finished with an 8-7 advantage in shots, though Clarkson was up in shots on goal 3-2. The Chargers also had a small lead in corners, 5-3. Josh Morelli made one save for the Knights and Paul Agne made two stops for Union.
