Knights Back on Winning Track in 2-0 Victory Over Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – Limiting the chances of its opponents, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team owned a significant advantage in shots against Bard College, and the defensive effort combined with some luck and a late score allowed the Golden Knights to claim a 2-0 Liberty League victory on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in conference games, while Bard dropped to 5-4-2 and 0-4-2. Clarkson takes on Vassar College tomorrow afternoon.

Clarkson allowed only two shots to the Raptors, with Bard's lone shot on goal coming in the first half. Meanwhile, the Knights had eight attempts in the opening 45 minutes, but the team's first goal of the contest went in without a shot being taken. The Knights were passing the ball around cleanly and trying to find some space, and it appeared as if one more pass would be made for the ball to end up on the right side for a cross. However, that pass never found its way to its intended target, as it was bounced off a Bard defender's foot. The ensuing floater from the top of the 18 then drifted into the back of the net to the far post, putting Clarkson up 1-0 at 33:45.

Clarkson's second goal of the contest came late in the game as the Raptors were on their heels. The Knights looked to have a goal off a Nolan Grady header in front, but a Bard defender came flying in to clear the ball off the goal line. However, the clear didn't end the pressure as the Knights picked up possession roughly 30 yards away from the net. A quick pass from the center of the field to the left side found Dylan Jasey, who carried the ball deep into Bard end near the top of the six. He sent a short pass square to Grady, and the senior settled the ball with his left and faked a move, sending a Bard defender out of position. A shot with his right foot to the opposite post then finished off the scoring chance at 84:35.

Clarkson finished with a 14-2 edge in shots, a 4-1 lead in shots on goal, and a 3-2 advantage in corner kick chances. Josh Morelli was called upon to make one save for his fourth shutout of the year, and Gavin Hersey made three stops for the Raptors.
