Seventh Straight Shutout for #24 Clarkson in 0-0 Tie Versus Ithaca

Ithaca, NY – Freshman Carter Kladstrup denied three shots for the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team on Saturday, but the 24th-ranked Golden Knights had to settle for a 0-0 tie against Ithaca College in the Green and Gold's first Liberty League contest of 2022.

The Knights saw their formerly flawless record move to 6-0-1 and 0-0-1 in league games, while the Bombers edged forward to 1-4-3 and 0-0-1. Clarkson will look to pick up its first conference win of the year on Wednesday when the team hosts Skidmore College.

With the shutout, Clarkson extended its season-opening blanking streak to 630 minutes, the longest in program history. The former mark was set by the 2019 team when the Knights went 599-plus minutes without allowing a goal. The Golden Knights remain the only team in Division III Men's Soccer yet to allow a goal in 2022.

Clarkson had a couple of chances in the early going as Kyle Otis and Taro Hayashi took shots roughly 10 seconds apart, but neither could put their attempt on goal. Ithaca had a pair of shots on goal in the first half from Jared Krasnove and Connor Tierney, about 13 minutes apart, but both were in the center of the goal and picked up by Kladstrup.

The action in the second half was spent mostly in the midfield, as the two teams combined for just three shots. Ithaca did have two corner kicks, but neither amounted to much, and the team also had one shot on goal from Nathan Waychoff, with Kladstrup again gaining possession in the middle of the Clarkson net.

Ithaca finished with a 6-5 lead in shots and a 3-0 edge in shots on goal and the Bombers also had a 5-0 lead in corner kick chances. Kladstrup picked up his fourth shutout of the year, while Ian Whitfield earned his second shutout of the year for Ithaca.
