Clarkson Completes Four-Game Sweep of RIT, 13-0 and 4-2

Potsdam, NY – Senior Rylee LeBourveau continued her timely hitting for the Clarkson University Softball team as the Golden Knights finished off a four-game series sweep of RIT on Tuesday afternoon, beating the Tigers 13-0 and 4-2 at Scott Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 9-3 on the season and moved to 4-0 in the Liberty League while the Tigers fell to 3-9 and 0-6. Clarkson will look to remain unbeaten in conference games when it faces Route 11 rival St. Lawrence University this weekend with a four-game set.

The opening game was never really in doubt as Clarkson scored six runs in the bottom of the first, more than enough for Olivia Zoeller. The Knights had seven straight hitters reach after the first out was made. Sam Short singled and stole second, Kayla Robert walked, and Maddie Brink singled to load the bases. Sarah Vaccaro then reached on a fielder's choice to push across the first run, but the bases remained loaded on an error at second. Bridget Twaits then singled home a run, Alyssa Schaechinger did the same, and Katy Aldous singled one more time to plate a fourth run in the inning. Two batters later, Zoeller helped her own caused with a two-run single to make the score 6-0.

If that wasn't enough, the Knights matched their first inning output in the third. Schaechinger walked to open the inning and then moved up on a ground out, and LeBourveau tripled to right-center to make it 7-0. She then came home on a hard single back to the pitcher by Zoeller and Kayla Robert drove in a pair to make it 10-0. Maddie Brink immediately followed Robert's double with a home run to left-center to make it 12-0. Clarkson would add one more in the fourth as LeBourveau tripled to left-center to drive in Aldous.

Zoeller picked up her sixth win of the season, tossing four innings of two-hit ball before Riley Page was called upon to finish off the contest's final inning.

Brink finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two more driven in, Aldous was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, LeBourveau was 2-for-3 with a pair driven in, and Zoeller was 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Game two was a closer affair as the teams exchanged zeroes for the first four innings. Emily McBath allowed just a walk her first time through the order, while RIT's Tori Adler dodged trouble through the first four innings, giving up six hits in that time. Clarkson broke through in the bottom of the fifth with two runs as LeBourveau doubled to center and then came home on a double by Sam Short to right-center. Kayla Robert singled up the middle to put Clarkson up 2-0.

The Knights would get two more key runs in the sixth thanks to head's up base running. Bridget Twaits reached on a one-out single and advanced to second on a ground-out. Becky Kennedy-Titsworth followed with a single to drive in Twaits and then took second herself on the throw to the plate. LeBourveau followed with a single to right to plate Kennedy-Titsworth and advanced herself on a similar play, though she would not come around to score.

Up 4-0 in the top of the seventh, McBath gave up a walk, an infield single, and another walk to load the bases, and Riley Page was called upon for relief. She was greeted with a fielder's choice which should have only provided RIT with one run, but a dropped ball at second allowed another run to score. However, Page got a strikeout, a soft pop up to second, and a come-backer to end the game for Clarkson.

Kayla Robert went 3-for-3 at the dish, driving in one run, and LeBourveau matched that performance with three hits in as many at bats as well as a run and a run driven in. Twaits also went 2-for-3 for the second straight game.

McBath picked up her first win of the season, giving up four hits over six-plus innings and striking out three. Page earned her first save of the year with the final three outs of the contest. Tori Adler gave up 12 hits and struck out one in six innings for the Tigers.
