With a double-digit victory total for a fourth straight year, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team earned a home playoff game, recorded its first postseason victory, and placed the Golden Knights firmly in the upper tier of the Liberty League a year ago. More than 20 veterans return from the highest-scoring team in program history and the Green and Gold are seeking more as the 2020 season dawns on February 26th.

The Returners: A year ago, the Golden Knights trailed only Ithaca in the Liberty League in scoring, producing a school-record 272 goals that far outpaced the previous mark. By this season's end, the Green and Gold could very well have five current players in the 100-point club as both Abby Collins (116) and Katie Sergeant (116) have already eclipsed the mark and Sydney Roderick (82), Emma Andrews (81), and Aubrey Borgesi (72) are within striking distance. Collins, a three-time Liberty League All-Star, produces in all facets of the game, leading the team in groundballs (34) and draw controls (24) while ranking among the team leaders in points (44), goals (27), assists (17) and draw controls (48). Sergeant, a Liberty League All-Star as a sophomore, is one of only eight players in program history to score 100 goals in her career and she also contributes with the ball on the ground, snagging 33 draws and 24 groundballs. Borgesi enjoyed a breakout season a year ago when she led the team with 48 goals and ranked ninth in the league at 2.53 goals per game and Andrews found the back of the net 35 times during her sophomore campaign. Roderick was one of the top freshmen in the region last year, scoring 82 points on 33 goals and a school-record 49 assists, leading the conference in assists per game and ranking third in points.

In addition to those five potential century club scorers, Clarkson also returns sophomore Mia Petrone (29-2-31), senior Lexi Smith (8-8-16), and junior Natalie Farnett (12-3-15) as offensive threats.

While Clarkson has plenty to show on offense, the defense will be a bit of an overhaul with the graduation of starting goalkeeper Samantha Gladd and top defender Amanda Ellman. Two-time Liberty League All-Star Stephanie Scaia, who ranked among the team leaders in groundballs (32) and caused turnovers (18), is back to provide a defensive leader near the crease as Clarkson will decide where to turn for its new goalkeeper. Carolynn Pechmann, Sydney Christiansen, and Emily Fischer all saw time between the posts last year and are capable of stepping in for Gladd, but the team's choice for opening day is yet to be decided. Helping out on the defensive end are veterans Sarah Duhaime, Adeline Danyla, Anna Patterson, and Farnett, who will be playing more of a defensive midfield role in 2020. Duhaime started all but one game a year ago, while Patterson and Danyla combined to play 34 games in 2019.

Newcomers: With such a large group of returning players, first-year players could have some difficulty edging their way into the lineup. Junior transfer Kyrsten Stone has two years of collegiate experience under her belt already and will have no trouble getting into the lineup for additional scoring punch, while Julia Lavarnway, the sister of 2019 graduate Marcus Lavarnway from the Golden Knights' Men's Lacrosse team, will also be trying to add to the offensive attack. Fellow first-year collegian Sofie Mangino will spar in the midfield and contribute on offense in her first season with the Knights as well.
