Knights Fall 5-1 at Brockport

Potsdam, NY – After allowing just a single goal in the first 180 minutes of the season, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team finished on the short end of a 5-1 decision against Brockport on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 2-1 on the season but will look to get back on track when they take on SUNY Geneseo on Saturday evening. Brockport improved to 2-1.

The five goals allowed by the Knights were the most the team allowed in a game since giving up seven against University of Rochester early in the 2013 season.

Clarkson's offense was limited to just three corner kicks and one shot in the first 27 minutes while Brockport was able to score twice in that time frame. Michael Meyers found the back of the net in the 14th minutes and DJ Taylor scored in the 27th. Less than four minutes later Zach Langelotti scored on a pass from Nikolas Sgaraglio to put Brockport up 3-0.

All of the goal scoring in the second half came on a flurry of penalty kicks. Jeff Hibbard scored at 47:47 to make it 4-0 but the Knights came back six minutes later with Erick Naula's second goal of the season, also on a penalty kick. Matthew Stefaniw took a penalty kick just five minutes later, also converting, to end the scoring for the day.

Brockport owned a 17-5 edge in shots and a narrow 4-3 lead in corner kicks. Ian Roeloffs made seven saves in the first 73 minutes for Clarkson before being relieved by Bryan Benitez, who held the Golden Eagles scoreless for the final 17 minutes. Tautis Poniskaitis made three saves for Brockport.
