CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - at Rensselaer (3/17)

After playing four games in the first 10 days of March, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team enjoyed a whole week off from competition to prepare for the start of the Liberty League season, which begins on Saturday at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: After ending a 24-game winless streak with a dominating 9-2 effort in 2016, the Golden Knights succumbed to RPI in triple overtime last year, 10-9. Clarkson scored five of the last six goals in regulation, tying the game 9-9 on a Christina Pollard goal with six seconds left in the second half. Abbey Salvon scored the game-winner for the Engineers midway through the third extra session.

Key Stats for Clarkson (3-1): Jaid Baytos scored five second-half goals against the Engineers last year to lead the Golden Knights comeback, and the junior is active on offense once again this season. Baytos leads Clarkson with 14 points on 11 goals and 3 assists, while also ranking first in draw controls (20). Senior Taylor Collins is among the team leaders in points (8), groundballs (10), caused turnovers (9) and draw controls (13). The sophomore class is providing plenty of production thanks to the early-season performances of Abby Collins (10 goals), Lexi Smith (9 points), and Stephanie Scaia (6 caused turnovers). Junior Marisa Clark is also adding to the Clarkson offense in her first season with the Knights, chipping in nine points on three goals and six assists.

Key Stats for Rensselaer (2-1-1): There are not many ties in lacrosse any more, but the Engineers' first game of the season was called due to darkness. Junior Michelle Bolger scored four goals in the opener and has accumulated 10 points so far, which ranks second on the team. Classmate Maddy Aslansan leads the team in both points (14) and draw controls (13), while fellow junior Lauren Guiry has tossed in 10 points as well. Laurel Dean leads the team in both groundballs (11) and caused turnovers (7), but Shannon Amarello trails by one in each of those categories. Through four games, Aleena Milinski has 34 saves, the fourth most in the Liberty League.
