Potsdam, NY – Sophomore Matt Adamou scored what proved to be the game-winner early and then assisted on an insurance goal late to lead the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team to a 3-0 non-league win over SUNY Potsdam Tuesday night.

The Golden Knights improved to 10-5-1, reaching double figures in victories for the first time since the 2001 season, while Potsdam dropped to 4-11-2. Clarkson will look to reach the post-season for the second straight year when it travels to face Rensselaer on Saturday.

Clarkson was in control almost from the start as Ben Root connected with Adamou at 11:41. Potsdam was not as lucky as its first four shots were blocked and never made it through the Clarkson defense.

The Bears would not get a shot on the Clarkson goal until the 73rd minute, and by that time the Golden Knights had extended their lead. Two freshman got together for Clarkson's second goal with Root finding Evan Yeigh at 68:56 to put the Knights up 2-0. A little over 18 minutes later, Clarkson recorded another insurance goal as Adamou located Henry Gomez for his team-best sixth goal of the year at 87:10.

Clarkson finished with a 13-11 edge in shots, but trailed in corner kick chances 3-1. Riley McDonald denied two shots in 84 minutes for the Knights and Noah Bell stopped one shot in six minutes of relief for the Knights. Jakeb Mitchell made seven saves for the Bears.
