Calnan's Three Goals Lead Knights to 3-1 Victory Over Wheaton

Norton, MA – Kevin Calnan accounted for all of the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team's offense, but the senior's effort was enough as he recorded a hat trick in the Golden Knights' season-opening victory over Wheaton on Friday evening.

The Golden Knights will remain in New England for another game on Saturday, when they face Babson College.

It did not take long for Clarkson to christen the 2017 season, as Calnan tallied at the 2:01 mark when freshman Mack Walton was able to find him in front. In the 37th minute, Wheaton tied things up on a shot from Amara Sesay that rattled between the two posts.

Although the momentum was on Wheaton's side entering the second half after their first goal and an 11-5 edge in shots, only the Golden Knights were able to find the back of the net in the second half. Sophomore Aidan Subra found Calnan in the box and the senior scored from about eight yards out at the 62:18 mark, and Calnan was able to finish off Clarkson's scoring at the 84:05 mark when the Knights were rewarded with a penalty kick following a Wheaton yellow card.

Clarkson ended the game on the short end of a 20-13 margin in shots, and Wheaton also owned a narrow 7-5 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore Ian Roeloffs denied six shots in the Clarkson victory, while for the victory, while Erik Wisniewski made five stops in the Wheaton frame.
