CU Men's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime

After more than 100 scoreless minutes, a screaming shot into the top corner saw the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team fall to visiting Plattsburgh 1-0 on Tuesday night on Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson suffers its first loss of the season and sees its record fall to 2-1-0 while Plattsburgh continues its strong start and is now 3-0-0.

During regulation, neither team could create many scoring opportunities. Plattsburgh had the best chance of the game when a forward got free behind the Clarkson defense, but goalkeeper Michael King made a kick save to keep the score deadlocked.

After a scoreless first overtime, a fortuitous bounce helped Plattsburgh finally get on the scoreboard. The Cardinals controlled the ball on the left side of the field and attempted to swing a cross into the box. The initial cross was blocked by a Golden Knight, but the ball fell to Ian Spear. Spear took a touch and then unleased a driven shot that darted right past the outstretched hand of a diving King. It was the first goal that Clarkson has allowed all season.

Plattsburgh held a 14-3 edge in shots and a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. King made five saves for Clarkson while Andrew LaClaustra had one stop for Plattsburgh.

Clarkson will hit the road for the first time this season when they head to Geneseo and St. John Fisher for games on Friday and Saturday respectively.
