CU Men's Soccer Hosts Plattsburgh

For the second time in three seasons under head coach Chris Taylor, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team has a 2-0-0 record to start the season. To extend their perfect start to three games, the Golden Knights will have to knock off Taylor's alma mater Plattsburgh State on Tuesday afternoon on Hantz Turf Field at 6:00 pm.

Clarkson opened the season by taking second place in the North Country Classic thanks to a 2-0 win over Ithaca and a 1-0 victory over Brockport.

On Friday, Kevin Calnan's two goals were the difference as the Golden Knights defeated Ithaca. On Saturday, Calnan turned provider as his pass set up Stephen Klimek to score his first collegiate goal. Calnan has now recorded at least one point in five of the six North Country Classic matches that he has appeared in. Brian Kroetz and Erick Naula recorded two assists on Calnan's goals against Ithaca, with Naula picking up his first collegiate point.

The Clarkson defense was also very strong, recording back to back clean sheets for the first time since September 2014. The Green and Gold allowed their opponents to take 24 shots in two games, but only six of them were on frame. Michael King stopped all six of those shots to ensure the two shutouts. Overall, the back six of King, James Homan, Zach Golden, Andrew Akiki, Josh Eidem, and John Furcick played all 180 minutes so far this season.

Plattsburgh started its season with by defeating Salve Regina 4-1 and then knocking off Medaille 1-0. Clarkson will be the first opponent the Cardinals play away from the friendly confines of Plattsburgh though. Plattsburgh has five different goalscorers this season, but Alezis Archilla leads the way as he has two assists to go with his game-winning goal against Medaille. Ian Spear and Chris Robertson have also added an assist each to go with a goal. Plattsburgh will be confident heading into Potsdam as the Cardinals have defeated Clarkson in 16 straight games and have an overall record of 32-12-3 against the Golden Knights.
