Clarkson Men's Soccer Announces Class of 2020

Entering his third season, Clarkson University Men's Soccer coach Chris Taylor has brought in another stout recruiting class that should help the Golden Knights emerge as contenders for seasons to come.

"We are really excited about this group of young men that have chosen to take the next step of their journey with us," remarked Coach Taylor. "Thanks to the hard work of Carter Lincoln and former assistant Matt Konecnik, we have been able to put together a class that encompasses what we look for in Clarkson student-athletes. Along with our veterans returning this fall, this class is going to add depth, competition, and quality that will help us navigate through our tough non-league schedule and also the Liberty League. We believe we are on an upward trajectory and this class will only continue that movement."

Below are brief capsules regarding the Class of 2020 and other newcomers to the program:

13891Matthew Craw (Defense) - Colonie, NY (High School - Colonie Central High School; Club - Black Watch Premier Soccer Club)

Coach Taylor Says: "Matthew is someone we have known for a while through our camps and his interest in Clarkson. He has a great frame for a center back and will give us size and physical presence. His individual defending and understanding of the game are very good and he is someone you appreciate the more you see him."

Why Matthew Chose Clarkson: "I chose Clarkson because of the educational reputation and opportunity as well as Clarkson is the ideal setting for a college campus, especially to play soccer."

13896Josh Eidem (Defense) - Pittsford, NY (High School - Pittsford-Mendon; Last School - Monroe Community College)

Coach Taylor Says: "Josh joined us last semester as a transfer and immediately showed the qualities he will bring. He is a tough defender who does a lot of the little things right. He is developing as an attacking full-back, but his attitude and leadership will impact our team straight away."

13892John Furcick (Midfield) - Poughquag, NY (High School - Arlington High School; Club - SPA/Lagrange Soccer Club)

Coach Taylor Says: "I coached John at the club level a few years ago and he is an extremely intelligent player. He is a cultured midfielder that quietly does everything well. His experience at a top Arlington program is going to be important as he is coming from a winning culture."

Why John Chose Clarkson: "I chose Clarkson because of its academic reputation and all of the great people that make the campus feel friendly and welcoming."

13893Henry Gomez (Forward) - Germantown, MD (High School - Northwest High School; Club - Maryland Rush '97)

Coach Taylor Says: "We are really excited about Henry, as he is a goal scorer. He has the ability to play up top on his own or as a partnership. He is a really well-rounded player who will add depth and dynamism to the forward group."

Why Henry Chose Clarkson: "I chose Clarkson because of the great education that will benefit my career and future. Also because I really loved the soccer program and what they want to do moving forward."

13894Chris Jupin (Defense) - Rexford, NY (High School - Shenendehowa; Club - NY Elite FC)

Coach Taylor Says: "We have known Chris for a long time through some other players in our program and he has attended our ID Camps. He has a tremendous attitude and fire about him that will transition well to college soccer."

Why Chris Chose Clarkson: "I chose Clarkson University for its tremendous academic reputation and the opportunity to play soccer at the collegiate level."

13889Stephen Klimek (Forward) - Saratoga Springs, NY (High School - Saratoga Springs High School; Club - NY Elite FC)

Coach Taylor Says: "We have watched Stephen a lot over the past two years and we think he is really suited to college soccer. He is the type of player that people want on their team but hate playing against. He is a bull up-top and he will relish the physical challenge."

Why Stephen Chose Clarkson: "I chose Clarkson University because it gives me the best opportunity to succeed out in the real world and I get a chance to play competitive soccer."

13898Erick Naula (Midfield) - Wappingers Falls, NY (High School - Roy C. Ketcham High School; Club - Soccer Plus Academy)

Coach Taylor Says: "Erick is another player I briefly coached a few years ago and he was someone I rated extremely highly then. Erick comes from a very good club structure and he has a great passion for the game. With his energy, intelligence and quality in possession, Erick will be a great addition to our squad."

Why Erick Chose Clarkson: "I chose Clarkson because I knew that I could receive a great education and continue playing the sport that I love."

13897
Ian Roeloffs (Goalkeeper)
- Warwick, NY (High School - Warwick Valley High School; Club - PYSA Black

Coach Taylor Says: "Ian brings size to our goalkeeping group. He is very consistent and polished as a goalkeeper and we like his ability to dominate the box."

Why Ian Chose Clarkson: "I chose Clarkson University because I wanted to receive a great education at a smaller school and also have the opportunity to play soccer."

13890Ryan Stinson (Defense) - Milton, VT (High School - Milton High School; Club - Nordic Soccer)

Coach Taylor Says: "Ryan was with us last pre-season, but did not participate in the Fall. He came back in the Spring and looked extremely comfortable with the group. He has great pace and is incredibly difficult to play against as a full back. He has absorbed every bit of information given to him and we are excited to see him continue his development."

Why Ryan Chose Clarkson: "I chose Clarkson because it was the only school I visited that appeared to have a culture where the school looks at the students as real people, instead of the amount of money that students pay."

13895Aidan Subra (Forward) - Highland Park, IL (High School - Highland Park; Club - Chicago Magic PSG)

Coach Taylor Says: "Aidan was someone we found late in the process, but we love his quality on the ball and the ability he has to go at players in 1-v-1 situations. He is creative and brave in possession and coming from a top club will help him adapt quickly."

Why Aidan Chose Clarkson: "I chose Clarkson because of their well-known engineering program, and their soccer program."
