Top 10 Clarkson Highlights - #5 Golden Knights Nordic Skiers Back on Top at USCSA Nationals

First-year collegiate skiers on the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team back in 2013 performed admirably, leading the Golden Knights to second place (men) and fourth place (women) finishes at the USCSA National Championships, but the members had to "suffer" through a few more seasons before "finally" claiming their own titles in 2016.

Such are the expectations for the Golden Knights' Nordic skiers now as the men and women combined for five team titles since 1999. A sixth overall, and third for the women, was added in 2016 and freshman Charlie Maitland's win in the 1.5K sprint made him Clarkson's first individual winner at the nationals since Andrew Klem claimed both the 1.5K sprint and 8.5K classic in 2013.

Besides the outstanding performance from Maitland, who finished third overall for the men's cause, numerous other skiers put their mark on the 2016 USCSA Nationals, which were held on Clarkson's virtual home turf in Lake Placid, NY. Freshman Sarah Duclos showed that she may have some individual titles in her future at the nationals as she finished third overall in the standings for the women, claiming a pair of second place finishes and one fourth place showing. Senior Ashley Forshey rounded out an outstanding career at Clarkson by coming in fifth overall and freshman Ana Witkowski exhibited plenty of promise as well, coming in eighth in the overall standings. For the men, Maitland led the way in third, while sophomore Peter Mallery came in 15th. Senior Ben King was another top-20 performer, coming in 20th overall.
