Skidmore Drops Clarkson 14-4 in Women's Lacrosse

Saratoga Springs, NY – Six goals in the first 10 minutes put the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team in a hole out of which it could not climb, as the Golden Knights suffered just their second conference loss of the season, falling 14-4 at Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 12-3 overall and 6-2 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore improved to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in conference games. Clarkson will close out the regular season next Saturday when it takes on St. Lawrence University in what could possibly be a battle for the final playoff spot in the conference tournament.

Skidmore jumped on Clarkson early when Tyler Phillips scored at the 28:26 mark and Cas Szwajowski scored two goals in the next four minutes. Though no one knew it at the time, the outcome of the contest was already decided by the time Christine Wright finally broke through for the Golden Knights at the 18:30 mark. Wright would score two more times in the next 10 minutes to get Clarkson to within four (7-3), but the Knights were held scoreless for the next 38-plus minutes as Skidmore steadily tacked on more goals to its lead. Kate Dillon scored on a free-position shot in the waning moments of the second half as the Knights suffered only their third defeat of the campaign.

Wright finished with three goals and Dillon also added a goal for Clarkson, while Emma Jeffery and Abby Gruniesen each picked up two groundballs and caused a pair of turnovers. Samantha Gladd made eight stops in the Clarkson crease. For Skidmore, Tyler Phillips had five points on four goals and an assist and also contributed four groundballs. Emma Harris scored three goals, and Rachel Talanian produced on defense with five groundballs and four caused turnovers. Megan Kolopsky denied nine shots in Skidmore's crease to pick up the win. Overall, Skidmore held advantages in shots (30-16), groundballs (20-10), and draw controls (11-7).
