CU Women's Lax Posts Third Shutout in School History with 21-0 Win Over Bard

Box Score
Potsdam, NY – For just the third time in program history the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team held its opponent scoreless, picking up a 21-0 victory over Bard College in Liberty League action Friday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the Liberty League, while Bard dropped to 4-7 and 0-4 in conference games. Clarkson will look to solidify its spot in the conference standings when it faces Vassar College on Saturday.

Just 19 seconds into the game Clarkson would have all of the scoring it would need against the Raptors when Christine Wright scored an unassisted goal off the draw. That would turn into a refrain for Clarkson, as the team won 18 of the 23 draws in the contest, giving them plenty of opportunities to hold the ball until quality scoring chances presented themselves. Wright had a hand in four of the first five goals with three tallies of her own and one assist, but she left the game with about 12 minutes expired from the clock and the Knights up 10-0. For the remainder of the game, the clock would be continually running as the Knights received goals from 10 different players over 60 minutes.

Despite playing barely 15 minutes, Wright scored eight points on five goals and three assists, needing just six shots to amass her five goals. Ashley Flick kicked in six points on three goals and three assists and Casey Shannon also had three goals. Taylor Collins produced five points (two goals, three assists) and also had four groundballs, two draws, and two caused turnovers. Kate Dillon added three points with a goal and two assists, while Stephanie Lynch and Taylor Kwiek each scored twice. Samantha Gladd received the start in the Clarkson crease, but was pulled after 17-plus minutes of action for Carrie Yurkon as the two combined for the shutout. Yurkon was called upon to make one save on a free-position shot.

For Bard, Nicole Ellin led the team with four groundballs and Carla Sanchez added two groundballs and two caused turnovers. Kaylynn Tran was busy in the Bard crease, making seven saves and scooping up three groundballs.

Clarkson led handily in all of the statistics, holding a 42-4 advantage in shots, a 28-1 lead in shots on goal, and a 24-13 edge in groundballs.

The previous two shutouts for Clarkson came in 1989 (7-0 vs. Wells) and 2014 (17-0 vs. St. Joseph).
