For the first time since 1999, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team placed two players on the conference's all-star team's first squad when Kevin Calnan and Michael King earned Liberty League All-Star notice on Tuesday when the league's post-season awards were announced. James Homan also attained all-star honors.

Calnan and King both were named Liberty League First-Team All-Stars, while Homan gained a Liberty League Second-Team All-Star nod. The last time that the Golden Knights saw two players earn first-team conference all-star status was when Michael Secko, Matt Secko and Brad Sayer were all named first teamers in 1999 for the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA), the former name of the Liberty League until 2004.

Calnan, a junior, scored a team-best 14 points on five goals and four assists, becoming just the fourth player in the past 14 seasons to achieve that many points in a single season at Clarkson. Calnan's 14 points ranked ninth in the Liberty League, while his five goals were tied for ninth. His four assists put him in a tie for seventh in the conference. In 15 games, he also led the team with 20 shots and nine shots on goal, tallying a pair of game-winners in 2016 and scoring on his lone penalty kick.

Clarkson's success in 2016 largely came due to its prowess on defense, and a significant part of that success was due to senior Michael King. With a goals against average of just 0.642, King led the conference by a wide margin, and also topped the league in shutouts (8), save percentage (.881) and saves per game (4.93). In a little over 1400 minutes, King allowed just 10 goals and currently ranks seventh in the country in save percentage and 17th in goals against average. His eight shutouts were the second most in program history.

King was far from the only stalwart on defense as the league's coaches also tapped sophomore James Homan as a Liberty League Second-Team All-Star. Homan played in 15 of the team's 16 games, taking 10 shots overall. More importantly, Homan was a vital part of the team's defense that allowed just 13 goals in 16 games. Clarkson's defense ranks 38th in the country overall in goals against average at 0.78 and is tied for 30th in shutout percentage at 50%.
