Calnan's Goal Helps CU Men's Soccer Beat Union

A late goal gave the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team a 1-0 win over Union on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson is now 6-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the Liberty League while Union is 8-4-1 and 2-2-1 in conference.

With just 19 goals allowed in 26 combined games for the two teams, goals were at a premium on Saturday. That was especially apparent for the first 45 minutes, as neither team could get on the scoreboard and each took just one shot.

In the second half though, the game began to pick up the pace and both teams had chances to score. It was Clarkson who took advantage first. In the 84th minute, Henry Gomez found Kevin Calnan with a pass and Calnan was able to score the game-winning goal. Union had one final chance to score in the last minute, but Michael King saved Mike Kaye's shot off a corner kick to secure the victory.

Union finished with an 11-6 advantage in shots and took six corner kicks to Clarkson's one. King finished with five saves for Clarkson.

Clarkson's next home game will be the final home game for the Golden Knights. It will take place on October 22nd when Skidmore travels to Potsdam.
