18th-Ranked Knights Improve to 4-0 in Liberty League with Sweep

Schenectady, NY - Senior outside hitter Aishvina Arasu was virtually unstoppable for the Clarkson University Volleyball team on Saturday as the Golden Knights claimed two more wins in the Liberty League with victories against Vassar College and Union College.

The Golden Knights, ranked 18th in the latest AVCA National Poll, won their fourth and fifth straight matches on Saturday, defeating Vassar in three straight (25-19, 25-12, 26-24) and Union in four (24-26, 25-22, 25-23, 25-15).

"Today was not our best day and Union had a lot to do with that," Clarkson head coach Johan Dulfer said. "But fighting back the way we did took a lot of heart and I'm very proud of how we overcame the adversity of the match. We are learning important lessons along the way, but (assistant coach) Annie (McShea) and I never have to worry about the desire in this group and we are proud of them."

Clarkson swept the Brewers behind impressive performances from both Arasu and senior middle hitter Danielle Farabee. Arasu hit .577 with 15 kills against no errors in 26 swings and Farabee nearly matched that rate with a .526 hitting percentage and 10 kills in 19 swings with no miscues. Lauren Hutchinson also struck for eight kills in 18 swings with just two errors. Kirstie Shurie averaged 14 assists per set (42 total) while Victoria Kirkemo had six kills, 14 digs and two aces.

The Dutchwomen continued to have somewhat of an answer for Clarkson, remaining the only team in the last two-plus seasons to take a set from Clarkson in any Liberty League match. Union came from behind to win the first set, but the Knights were able to come up with answers in the second and third sets before cruising in the fourth and final set. Arasu had 13 kills with no errors in 41 swings while Farabee had 11 kills and four errors in 21 attempts. Kirkemo led the team with 17 kills and added 21 digs in four more aces. Shurie produced 44 more assists in the win, while freshman Tara Stilwell led the Knights with 24 digs.
