Clarkson Completes Weekend Sweep at Providence with Another Shutout

Genevieve Bannon scored twice in Sunday's 3-0 win at Providence
Box Score
Freshman goaltender Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) was perfect on the weekend and sophomore Genevieve Bannon (Candiac, QUE) and junior Cayley Mercer (Exeter, ONT) produced another dynamic offensive showing as the ninth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team completed a series sweep of Providence College in Rhode Island with a 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who have won three straight, shut out the Friars 5-0 on Saturday. Clarkson, at 3-1, hosts nationally-ranked Boston University in a two-game series at Cheel Arena next weekend.

"Our staff really saw a lot of growth in our team this weekend," stated head coach Matt Desrosiers. "Both games were a total team effort. You could really see the team come together as a group. We focused a lot this week in practice on making sure we came into this weekend doing all the little things well and I thought we did a great job of that both games. We were also able to get a lot of players some valuable time in some different positions and had a lot of them step up and play great this weekend. As a team we did a really good job of focusing on our defensive game. If there were any breakdowns Shea was there to make the save and calm things down for us. Our staff was very happy and impressed with our performance and overall effort for two full games."

Tiley, who has only allowed one goal during the current winning streak, posted 22 saves on Sunday and was at her best over the final 20 minutes,
making 12 stops, when the Knights entered third with a 1-0 lead.

Bannon scored twice in Sunday's win for a three-goal weekend and Mercer connected on the power play to also finish the series with three goals against the Friars (0-4).

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes Bannon gave Clarkson the only goal it would need, finishing off assists from Mercer and senior defender Jennifer Shields (Ingersoll, ONT) at 16:50 of the middle frame.

Mercer gave the Green and Gold some breathing room midway through the third period with a power-play goal at 11:23 with senior Christine Lambert (Thetford Mines, QUE) setting up the score.
With 56 seconds remaining Bannon sealed the road win with an empty-net goal.

Clarkson outshot Providence 25-22 and went 1-of-2 on the power play while killing off both of the Friars man-advantage opportunities.
